 SPACESUIT 2

I created an original spacesuit costume for an independent science fiction short film called “Happy Thoughts” (currently in production). Based on an original story and creative brief by director Brett Price, I created this costume for the main character of the film who is lost on a mysterious unknown planet. I designed and built this costume from scratch with unique details that help to build the world around the character in the story. Primarily built out of EVA foam, plastic (3D printed and vacuum-formed), and fabric, the costume is painted to look like old worn metal. The helmet, which is 100% custom and scratch built, has an integrated fan bringing in cool air from outside the suit. Functional controls on the back of the helmet and front of the chest can change all of the integrated LED panels to any color.

I wrote an 8 page article about how to design an original character costume, using this costume as a case study, for Make: Magazine issue #86 (published August, 2023).
